Sandy’s Heart and Thoughts

This is what the Lord says:

"Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths,

ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.

But you said, 'We will not walk in it.'  Jeremiah 6:16

As a wife, mother, and grandmother of 7, I know first hand how difficult it is to find the balance to every aspect of our lives as Christians. And, I’m also aware that men struggle in finding a balance in knowing how to be that godly, strong, and yet, loving male figure that God intended for them to be in their own homes.

With sin rampant all around us, and the stress we all live with every day, it is easy to lose our way in the busyness of life if we don’t often take time to search the scriptures afresh to make sure we are on that straight and narrow path. We have strayed so far from Christ-like living, teaching purity, modesty, self-respect, respect for our spouses, just to name a few. Even most pastors hesitate to address some of these issues because of repercussions, possibly coming from their own families. Many people in leadership have also lost their way, and aren’t the Christ-like example they need to be to their flocks.  So, their flock strays with them.

If we stray into disobedience and stay there long enough, we will begin to feel comfortable and will no longer see how deadly it can be. Biblical standards will have little or no importance anymore, and “the old paths” will be considered “old fashioned,” even as in so many of our churches today, to our shame. We have become blinded to the truth and sin does not seem to be so bad after all because our conscience has been seared. If we ignore our sin long enough, the Bible tells us that God may turn us over to a reprobate mind (And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, Romans 1:28) and we may think everyone that is trying to live a holy life is acting “self-righteous.”

A wonderful pastor friend of ours, and man of God that we respect very much, once shared with my husband and me that while he was marrying a couple known to us also, he was very embarrassed by the bride’s immodesty. We were also at that wedding, and felt the pastor handled the situation in a very godly way. This pastor was filled with the Spirit of Christ and was walking in self-control by the grace of God. But, this kind of immodesty just should not be in the Body of Christ!
