The Story of MosesMoses Undergoes HisFirst Surgery
Quite a few months ago, we shared in our Newsletter the story of a man named Moses. Moses was born with a rare genetic disorder called neurofibromatosis, in which tumors develop along the nerves of the face. Because he grew up in a poor family in the Philippines, Moses was unable to have the necessary surgery to remove the tumors and stop the progression of the disease as a child. Consequently, tumors continued to develop on Moses’ face, deforming the muscles and distorting his appearance resulting in being teased as a child. Finally, disheartened by the relentless teasing from his classmates, he stopped going to school in the third grade, and never went back. Moses, now 36 years old, lives with his aging mother. He is unable to find work because of his disability, lack of education, and physical appearance. Moses and his mother are very poor, as they have no livelihood or ability to earn income to support themselves. Upon hearing Moses’ story, Pastor A (name protected) had great compassion on Moses and his mother and brought his need for reconstructive surgery and financial assistance to our attention. Through the generous gift of a donor, the entire cost for Moses’ first multiple reconstructive surgeries and medications was covered. There are still more surgeries that he will have to go through, and will continue to need help from generous donors, but thanks be to God, through this trial Moses came to know Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. Praise God! We are grateful to announce that in March of 2007, Moses underwent his first surgery! Doctors were able to remove large growths from his left cheek and left ear, and remove his left eye which was also affected by the growths. It will take months for Moses to heal and fully recover from this surgery, but his health is now improving! Please pray for his quick and complete recovery from his surgeries, and for strength and encouragement during this difficult time. Moses’ next surgery should take place within the following year. As we hear from Pastor A, we will keep you updated on Moses’ progress. As for Moses’ financial needs, Pastor A is trying to help Moses’ mom, start a small business. If you would like to be a part of helping this family get started with a small business, please designate your gift for “Moses—Small Business.” You may want to help with Moses’ medicines and future surgeries, or simply give a love offering to Moses and his mother to bless them, please designate your gift for “Moses.” Sadly, in late October, Moses’ home, along with his neighbors homes were flooded with black, murky, greasy water from the city sewage open canal. Much of the water comes from the highland and industrial plants. The high tide worsens the situation since they are located close to the seashore. This family has been through so much, and we would like to raise enough money for them to have their home put up on strong stilts so any future flood waters will go under their home instead of soaking everything inside with the murky waters. They have to live by the sea because the land is free and they cannot afford to purchase land further back for their home. This is another need that this poor family has. If you would like to help get their home off the ground, please designate your check “Stilts for Moses’ home.” If you would like to help Moses and his mother, please make your checks payable to In Jesus’ Name Ministries, and put “Moses” in the memo field of your check, and we will forward 100% to our dear brother.
