CARING HANDS
Arun & Shobha Massey, India

Middle—Arun Right—Shobha
Daughter—Melissa

The Tailoring Center is for young ladies
who are still involved in prostitution. This
is to motivate them to learn an alternate skill to support their family instead of resorting to prostitution.

These little girls now have a chance to grow up normally with an education
and a skill to support their families.

Children of temple prostitutes come to the centers for two hours daily. They are helped in their studies, taught hygiene, and Christian values.
Ministry to HIV/AIDS affected:
India tops the list of AIDS infected nations in the world, having the highest number
of HIV/AIDS victims. Karnataka state is one of the high-
Food Supply:
Food rations are supplied to many needy elderly people who have no one to support them.
A Brief description of this work:
CARING HANDS is a ministry in India, founded by Arun and Shobha Massey. They both were born and brought up in Christian families. They heard the call of our Lord Jesus Christ and left their administrative jobs to begin a work among the Devadasies (temple prostitutes). This practice is called Devadasi System prevailing among the lower caste people in north Karnataka state of India. It is a practice of the people who worship a female deity called ‘Yellamma’ or ‘Huligamma’. Fear of diseases, curses, and superstitious beliefs force parents to dedicate their daughters to the goddess. A Devadasi is not allowed to marry but is expected to satisfy the lust of any man, for that is her “religious duty”. Hundreds of young women have been devastated by a system that forces them into prostitution to support their families. The children of Devadasies have no one whom they can rightfully call their father.
Joyful Children’s Home:
The Joyful Children’s Home was opened in 1997 for the daughters of Devadasies. By showing the mothers that there is a way to break this curse, and that their daughters can have a better life, the mother allows them to be placed in the children’s home where they are then influenced from childhood, and educated for a better future, and nurtured in the love of God.
Share & Care Project:
The children of Devadasies come to our centers in different towns and villages for two hours daily. We help them in their school studies, teach them hygiene and share with them Christian values.
Rehabilitation & Vocational Training:
Tailoring Centers teach an alternate skill to earn their livelihood and support their families. They learn to sew all kinds of garments in six months. This is to motivate them to a life of dignity and self reliance instead of resorting to prostitution.
Get Involved:
Do you want to be involved in such a tremendous ministry? Your powerful prayer support, voluntary service, and financial help will enable us to go on those dusty roads leading to the shacks of those dying miserably. Come let us take the love of Jesus to the community that is under the bondage of sin, superstitions, ignorance and living with HIV/AIDS.
